Up until now, small satellites have been launched using a “piggyback” scheme, i.e. the smaller satellite is carried as a secondary payload on a launch for a bigger satellite. Motivated by the New Space emergence and the escalation of the number of small satellites launches, CARAVELA is an R&D project that proposes the design, development and demonstration of technologies for building blocks for a multiuse microlauncher dedicated to small satellites.
